Adoptions
- step-parent adoptions
- The process of step-parent adoption, allows a spouse who is not biologically related to the child to adopt their partner's biological or adoptive child without terminating the rights of the custodial parent.
- Adoption that is private (or independent) is when the birth parents choose the adoptive parents and place the child with them directly. Further, the adoptive parent generally does not have any biological relationship with the adoptee.
Kinship Guardianship
- The full-time care of a child by relatives or other people with a link with the child is referred to as kinship care. When children are unable to remain in their own homes due to child safety concerns, relatives or key adults provide care, nurture, and protection to them.
- Legal guardianship is one of the choices accessible to parents who need to plan for their children's care while they are away due to illness or incarceration. It enables parents to appoint a caregiver and grant that person some legal powers over their child's care.
